On this trip, I saw the indescribably beautiful views of the Rift Valley as we followed the athletes. Along the way, the coach designated me the various villages in the valley and the main peaks of the area. He also talked about two projects - one concerning water pipes and the other about the new road leading to the dam. And at the same time, I would not miss the moment to capture this wonderful landscape with my mobile phone.
Occasionally, in places where the trail was less steep, we stopped so I could get off and film the athletes as they passed us. I also filmed them while we were following them in the car - and I will refrain from telling you about all the efforts to hold on to the phone so as not to lose it.
At one point, four athletes separated from the group and I was asked to come up with suggestions for specific exercises to strengthen the quadriceps.
On the way back, I switched from sitting in the front of the pickup to standing in the back loaded with all the athletes. And from here I enjoyed and admired the landscape of the valley even more.
When I talked to the coach about different things, he asked me how many times I have been to Kenya. I replied that this is my first time. Yes, he says .. in Kapsait, but not in Kenya ?! He thinks I seem too well adapted to that - even the guys are surprised by it. Here I think there is a reason why some call my region in Italy, Calabria, “Calafrica”. And it does not stop here .. during a treatment, asks another athlete who is watching, in African, if it hurts. And believe it or not, but I understood it when I heard the word “ciunco”, which is used in my dialect “mi ciuncai”, which means I am in pain. So to get it confirmed I asked her if it was correct and then they both laughed and said “wow, you already understand Kenyan”.
During my afternoon break while the athletes were out on their second workout, I visited our chef, Robert. We did a little show where he showed off his kitchen and explained what he was doing. We return to Robert, to see him cook “ugali” and chapati ”at another time.
The rest of the day goes with the usual routines .. Tomorrow awaits another exciting day, which starts with training in the woods.
I would recommend you that you do not miss these moments and follow us on Instagram @se_mbk
